THE VILLAGE
Located in the foothills of the Sierra de Santa Cruz, we will highlight its church of the Asunción de la Virgen s. XVII with an interesting main altarpiece from the Aragonese Ramírez school, the organ from the s. XVIII and a restored image of the Virgen del Patrocinio.
In its vicinity we can see numerous peirones:
San Ramón, the Virgin of the Martyrs, the Saints, San Gregorio, the souls and finally the Peirón de la Virgen del Pilar.
Atea has numerous hermitages such as San Roque, from the s. Gothic style XIII, with an altarpiece from the s. XVIII, located next to the old refrigerator, restored, the hermitage of Santa Bárbara of the s. XVIII with curious tombstones; the hermitage of Nuestra Señora Virgen de los Mártires, from the s. XVIII, in the old town of Sace; and finally, the hermitages of San Lamberto and Santa Cruz, with a viewpoint.
We must highlight the spectacular views from the Cerro de Santa Cruz with an altitude of 1423 m. or the Cerro de Valmayor with 1026 m.
In Santa Cruz, we can rest in its picnic area and observe the old refrigerator in the vicinity of the hermitage of San Roque.
WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO SEE
In the municipality of Atea we can enjoy several sources with medicinal mineral water such as the San Lamberto spring spring or the Virgen de los Mártires, fantastic walks through the Cerro de Santa Cruz or the Valmayor, if we like mycology and walking through the pine forests this is a fantastic place to enjoy.
Church of la Asunción de la Virgen
Built in the second half of the seventeenth century, most of it made of brick and with three naves covered with lunettes and groin vaults, its vegetal decoration in cap and imposts. It has an interesting main altarpiece from the Aragonese Ramírez school, an 18th century organ, and a restored image of the Virgen del Patrocinio.
Hermitage of San Lamberto
It is located on the slope of the Cerro de Santa Cruz, it is a small rectangular-shaped building, covered with gabled waters. At present it has a painting as an altarpiece. From this hermitage comes an altarpiece of Gothic painting that is preserved in the parsonage. The altarpiece was contracted between the brotherhood of San Lamberto de Atea and the Daroca painter Juan de Bruxelles, in 1496. The figure of San Lamberto is painted in the central panel. and San Marcos. On the sides four saints: Santa Quiteria and Santa Catalina, in the left, and Santa Lucia and Santa Bárbara, on the right.
