Acered

Interior iglesia de Acered

THE VILLAGE

Acered is located on a slope of the Sierra de Santa Cruz, some 22 km from Daroca and is dominated by its parish church, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, interesting for its decoration of plasterwork of Mudejar tradition, made around 1674 by the architect Juan de Marca.

In a beautiful place about 4km. from Acered is the 16th century hermitage of the Virgen de Semón, where its Rococo altarpiece stands out.  This hermitage is one of the most visited in the area, especially during the pilgrimage on the second Sunday in May. Popular tradition attributes to this Virgin the intercession in numerous miraculous acts.

Within popular architecture, mention its five peirones, a refrigerator, a stone fountain and the hermitages of the Holy Sepulcher or Soledad, and that of San Roque.

Among its festivities to highlight, San Blas on February 3, where the people from Acereda dress up with their typical sashes and batons as priors and mayordomos. The Brotherhood of the Saint prepares a meal with roast mutton meat over an holm oak fire. Other gastronomic elements are its sausages, its pastries and its Garnacha wine from old vineyards.
